PAPERCUTS

(c) The Red Room Company 2007
PAPERCUTS is the name for The Red Room Company's poetry education program which, with generous support from the Keir Foundation and the Ian Potter Foundation, was piloted in four NSW high schools during 2007.
In 2008 we have expanded into Victoria and in future years plan to take our poets and projects to schools across Australia.
Papercuts focuses on Australian poetry and poetry's role in contemporary society. Written and implemented in conjunction with teachers, students and professionals in the education sector, our program has the potential to transform the way poetry is taught and experienced in Australian schools.
There is no other poetry program like this in the country.
Our education program is based around a single Red Room project we have already implemented successfully in the public sphere. For the 2007 pilot program we will use The Cabinet of Lost and Found, originally presented at the 2006 Sydney Writers' Festival.

Over the next five years we aim to build a poetry program that reaches students and schools in NSW and ultimately nationally, and that is of benefit to students, teachers, parents and the communities in which they live.
The poetry program encourages student participation in the writing, reading, performing and understanding of poetry. Students are inspired to collaborate with each other and with people working in other art forms, such as the visual arts. The forms of poetry publication and distribution, and ways of understanding poetry are also explored through using the web and digital mediums.
There is no other poetry education program like this in the country.
