Installation - at The Sydney Writers' Festival from May 23rd - May 25th 2008 Pier 4/5 in The Bangarra Rehearsal Studio.
Nightwriting will tour Australian Writers’ Festivals during 2008 including the Tasmanian Writers' Festival
This project draws attention to poetry as an art that requires few external materials to exist; it will encourage people to use all their senses to explore poetic language.
The project features MIKE LADD, (South Australia) LACHLAN BROWN (N.S.W.) and ESTHER OTTOWAY(Tasmania) and British poet, JACOB POLLEY, delivering our mineslec.
Our poem-pod installation, designed by Camilla Lawson – is a trio of walk-in booths fitted with audio Braille and tactile alphabet versions of an original poem.
Proudly Supported by The Keir Foundation with support from The Sydney Writers' Festival and Vision Australia.
The project premiered at the 2008 Sydney Writers' Festival on Thursday 22nd May at 6:30-8PM
For those who missed our exceptional launch - our nocturnal event all three poets read and you British poet JACOB POLLEY delivered the Mineslec : a brief public address combining experimental essay and lecture forms. Click here to hear the Mineslec recorded live on the night.
Our live event was held in the dark with text versions of the poems revealed to sight through torch-powered projections. The poems were all performed from memory and each one raised our interest in the code-like and physical nature of poetic language.
Nightwriting readers, with Braille and regular text are available from Gleebooks or email order for $10.00.
